Mistake Email Puts Staffer In Hot Water

To steal a phrase from Southwest Airlines: You want to get away?

Probably not as much as Bryan BRANDENBURG, legislative director for Rep. Jeff FARRINGTON (R-Utica), who wanted to be anywhere but the House Office Building this afternoon after his personal email that broadcasted the availability of a “hot” female staffer was mistakenly sent to every member of Republican legislative staff.

The email, sent from Brandenburg’s taxpayer-paid House account, was meant as a gag to a few friends in the House, but was mistakenly mailed to 160-some of his House colleagues, including Suzanne Miller ALLEN, chief of staff to House Speaker Jase BOLGER (R-Marshall).

Allen did not find the humor in the email, titled “25/F/Capitol Building.”

“The Speaker’s Office is aware of the email and is considering this a personnel issue, which we do not comment on publicly,” said Bolger Press Secretary Ari ADLER. “We will address the incident in accordance with House policies and guidelines related to staff conduct.”

The email reads as followed. MIRS choose not to identify the staffer, who has been “traumatized” by the situation, according to a source close to her:

“Hey guys,

“I know it’s slow today so I thought I’d help a friend out. (The staffer) broke up with her man yesterday and is now single and looking. She’s a dem, but she’s hot. Go visit her in (her employer’s) office or send her a message on Groupwise. Good luck!!

Bryan

“ps. feel free to facebook stalk her too lol”

Interestingly, the staffer involved is a friend of Brandenburg’s. She was cc’ed on the email because, MIRS has learned, it was originally meant as a joke on her among his friends.

Not everyone caught on to the humor. In response, one staffer asked to be removed from Brandenburg’s list and another wrote, “Isn’t it a little late for an April Fools Joke?”

Farrington told MIRS that he is aware of the situation, and that he’s talked with Brandenburg and House leadership. He said it’s a personnel matter will be handled internally. Attempts to reach Brandenburg were not successful.

A House Democratic spokesman declined to comment.

Brandenburg, 29, lost to former Rep. Sarah ROBERTS in the 24th House District in Macomb County in 2008. The son of Sen. Jack BRANDENBURG, Bryan Brandenburg is the former president of Lakeshore Properties and Investments.
