Rick Snyder will do to white-collar wages what NAFTA did to blue-collar jobs
The GOP assault on higher education combined with the destruction of collective bargaining risks hastening Michigan’s race to the bottom.

The eagle has landed. The eagle played in the background of a major rally today in Michigan’s state capital to protest attacks on the working class. Several thousand members of organized labor showed their support of the middle class while listening to speakers from numerous unions.
Sen. Gretchen Whitmer spoke at the AARP rally. The rally was organized by the Michigan chapter of the American Association of Retired Persons to protest Michigan Governor Rick Snyder’s proposed tax shift that would raise taxes on seniors and the poor to pay for corporate tax cuts.
Demonstrators in Lansing Michigan today wanted to send Governor Rick Snyder packing
Demonstrators hoisting anti U-M posters at today’s rally on the Capitol lawn were protesting the University using $100 million of endowment funds for start-ups in China. One retired engineering prof asked why not spend it in Michigan. U-M alum Rick Snyder is set to speak at graduation April 30 in the Big House and I think he should expect a big crowd of demonstrators. Michael Boulus, representing the 15 State universites, told the thousands of demonstrators that unless we turn around funding for universities ”business will go where the talent and resources are.” Maybe U-M’s endowment fund has already got the message?
Boulus also said that Michigan needs to “get younger and better educated or we will be poorer.”
