Princeton finds high-fructose corn syrup causes obesity when sugar doesn’t
Research conducted at Princeton University shows that rats fed high fructose corn syrup gained much more weight long term than rats that ate the same number of calories from regular sugar.
The study also showed that consumption of the corn syrup added to belly fat and raised triglyceride levels, adding to concerns that the switch to his sweetener is part of why Americans are becoming so obese. (Though the Princeton study doesn’t say so, this also suggests high fructose corn syrup is a key in rising rates of diabetes.)
Forget the propaganda on TV about how sugar is sugar. This study shows that sweeteners made from corn do act differently in the body.
The study also showed that ALL of the rats fed high fructose corn syrup at levels below what we put in soda pop became obese. ALL of them. Researcher Bart Hoebel noted that even rats fed a high-fat diet don’t all become obese. But, again, ALL of the rats fed the corn sweetener did.
Bye-bye, IBC root beer. I love you but it seems you have done me wrong.
